Raymond Chan rates Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir 2008

The 2008 harvest was an abundant one, warm, and favourable for health, though care was need to restrict yields. The Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir 2008 (18.0/20), at 14.0% alc, fruit from estate Bannockburn vineyards, some lots with up to 30% whole cluster, all indigenous yeast fermented and aged 11 months in barrel, was light ruby red in colour with garnet hues. Tight and a little pinched on nose, there were red berry and mineral aromas. On palate a wine resting on structure, rather than flesh. Bright cherryish fruit with peppery notes. Acidity prominent and the tannins carrying the palate. Drink this over the next 3-5 years.
