Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand: 14%; $90; screwcap; hand-harvested, 100% de-stemmed; 6 days cold soak; 16 days cuvaison; 14 months and MLF in barrel; not fined or filtered; www.mtdifficulty.co.nz

Mature pinot noir ruby. Initially opened, the wine is a little reductive, and needs a good splashy decanting. Breathed, it fits in well with the other Mt Difficulty’s, mixed cherry bouquet riper than the Long Gully wines, mature red and black cherry fruit on a long sustained palate. Cellar 1 – 3 years.
