The Cellar Door
With the completion of the new winery, we now have a Cellar Door facility. It is wonderful to have an area where visitors to Central Otago can taste our wines and where we can meet our clientele. Visitors from many parts of the globe have called in and our wines, branded glasses, shirts and wine knives have been taken back to many parts of Europe,U.S.A., South America, Canada, Australia and Asia. Recently we have had visits from several young, foreign wine-makers fresh from helping with the vintage at numerous wineries throughout New Zealand. This reflects the ever-increasing profile N.Z. has on the international wine scene. The current tasting room is only temporary. We have a magnificent site prepared on the hill above the winery from which we hope to serve lunches and to host functions. The site affords marvellous views over the vineyards and nearby orchards up to Lake Dunstan and over to Mt Difficulty itself- a somewhat benign-looking rounded peak to the west of the winery from which we take our name. Although the mountain is so named after problems encountered trying to establish sheep farming in the Wakitipu Basin, it could be said to be symbolic of the difficulties faced by growers trying to make the best wine they possibly can. Visitors to the winery can expect to be welcomed by Frankie the ebullient winery dog. Her rather curious habit of chasing shadows and sunbeams is the source of much teasing and mirth!
