HISTORY

Target Gully is again a very historic site with the name arising from the use of the gully in gold mining days as a shooting range. John and Arna Verboeket developed this vineyard in 1994.

Target Gully is similar to Long Gully in that it is comprised of Lochar soils but it does also have some Bannockburn soils. The latter are another of the Bannockburn series, formed from sluicing operations during early gold mining activities. Bannockburn soils are prone to droughtiness due to the coarseness of the base material.

Varieties

Target Gully is a 5.8 hectare site with a focus on two varieties, Riesling and Pinot Noir; again, there is a good breakdown of Pinot Noir clones – 5, 6, 10/5 and 777.
